How the business shift my mindset
Is your business your baby?
Maybe like me you've spent hours, days, weeks, or years thinking, planning and coming up with ideas for your business. Have you woken up in the middle of the night full of ideas and new strategies, or even a completely random content idea? You find yourself unable to get back to sleep with your brain swirling and end up jumping out of bed to write it all down and get it out of your mind.
If your answer is yes. Trust me, you aren't alone. Maybe this is a bit over the top, but it's fun right?
Since starting my business I've learnt so much. So much! Let me share some of my learnings to help you:
Owning a business is a huge part of my life and needs a lot of time and focus. So, I've found it's super important to take care of my mental (and physical) health. Believe it or not I used to be highly emotional - I'd get angry about the state of the world. I'd never heard of self-control and I was living with anxiety. Put simply, mental health wasn't a priority for me. Fast forward to today and I've realised that - especially as a business owner - I need to prioritise my mental health each and every day. I've learnt I need to manage my tasks, client communication all while looking after my mental health and taking care of my wellbeing. It's all about balance.
Being a solopreneur doesn't have to mean working by myself. I don't have to be capable at doing everything. Not every task has to be completed to perfection and I can be confident in what I do well. How you present yourself is how the world sees you. If you're confident in your abilities, your expertise and your brilliance this is what your customers and competitors will notice. Being confident takes courage, self-compassion and trust in yourself. I'm working on it. I've learnt not to beat myself up and - most importantly - to outsource tasks that I'm not strong in. I've learnt to learn on my community and back myself. You can too.
Every minute of every day is worthwhile. Whether I'm spending time working on my business or with friends and family during my downtime every second is precious. In my business I wear a number of hats - head designer, accountant, HR, CEO, sales person and even personal assistant. So I have learnt I need to be really selective with my time. I am learning to balance work with all the activities that bring me joy. So, make the most of every day. Prioritise doing something every day that brings you joy - whether it's calling a friend, going for a walk, listening to a podcast or having a special dinner with a loved one. Balance is key.
